Grade One/Two
Welcome to Mrs.Martens' 1/2 class page!! We are a hard working grade 1/2 combined class and we are looking forward to many new experiences and learning opportunites this year. My name is Kathy Martens and this is my fifth consecutive year teaching grade 1/2 at Banded Peak. Prior to this position I was a kindergarten teacher, a grade 1/2 teacher, a music specialist, K-2 teacher, and a grade four teacher, at various schools in Manitoba and Alberta.
Our classroom supports a philosophy of combining a strong focus on literacy and numeracy with inquiry, project-based learning. Inquiry is often driven by students' individual and combined interests and is consistently aligned with the Alberta Learning Curriculum. When you enter our classroom, you will often see students involved in various hands-on, activity based experiences. It is a busy place full of passionate learners and I look forward to travelling this year's learning journey with all of you!
